Privacy Notice — 2026-09-01-sillybudget-1
Last updated September 1, 2026

This Privacy Notice explains how SillyBudget handles information when you create and use a budget. SillyBudget is intentionally manual-first: it stores budgeting information you choose to enter, but it does not connect to financial institutions.

1. Scope and U.S.-only service

SillyBudget is intended for adults age 18 or older in the United States. Access from other countries may be blocked. This notice applies to the SillyBudget website, signup flow, private budget workspaces, support features, and transactional emails.

2. Information you provide

We may store your name, email address, account profile information, budget name, descriptive account names and starting balances, categories, assignments, targets, transactions, payees, memos, splits, reconciliation history, Forecast entries, Budget Notes, app settings, exports you request, and other budgeting information you intentionally enter.

3. Information SillyBudget deliberately does not request

SillyBudget does not connect to banks, credit-card issuers, brokerages, or other financial institutions and does not provide a field for bank passwords, routing numbers, full bank account numbers, full payment-card numbers, or financial-institution credentials. Certain free-text and import paths may also remove long number sequences as a privacy safeguard. Please do not enter financial credentials anywhere in SillyBudget.

4. Technical and security information

We and the infrastructure used to operate SillyBudget may process technical information such as IP addresses, timestamps, browser/device information, request logs, authentication/session data, error logs, rate-limit signals, and security events. SillyBudget may hash or otherwise minimize some security identifiers where practical.

5. Policy and account records

We record the versions of the Terms and Privacy Notice you accepted and the acceptance timestamp. We may also keep records related to signup, account creation, deletion requests, security events, and service administration.

6. How information is used

We use information to provide and calculate your budget, authenticate you, render reports and Forecasts, deliver transactional emails, prevent abuse, secure and troubleshoot the service, respond to support requests, create exports, process deletion requests, and maintain reliable infrastructure.

7. Service providers

SillyBudget relies on service providers for functions such as web hosting, databases, content delivery/security, backups, and email delivery. Those providers may process information only as needed to provide their services to SillyBudget and are subject to their own contractual and legal obligations.

8. No sale of financial data

SillyBudget does not sell your personal or financial information to advertisers or data brokers. Authenticated budget screens are not designed around third-party advertising technology. If this practice ever materially changes, this notice will be updated before the change takes effect where required by law.

9. When information may be disclosed

Information may be disclosed to service providers as described above, when you direct us to do so, when reasonably necessary to protect users or the service, in connection with a lawful corporate transaction, or when required by applicable law, legal process, or valid governmental request.

10. Private budget workspaces and administrative access

Each budget is provisioned as a private site and authenticated budget pages are configured not to be indexed by search engines. Application access is restricted by account membership and capabilities. Network Super Admins who are not an explicit creator/administrator of a budget are placed in read-only mode in the SillyBudget front end. Infrastructure administrators may still have technical access to systems, logs, backups, or databases when required for maintenance, security, support, or legal obligations.

11. Cookies and sessions

SillyBudget uses cookies or similar browser storage needed for sign-in, session security, WordPress functionality, and user preferences. We do not need advertising cookies to provide authenticated budgeting features.

12. Retention

Budget data is generally retained while your budget remains active. Security, operational, and acceptance records may be retained for legitimate operational or legal reasons. Deleted data may remain temporarily in backups, disaster-recovery systems, or logs until those systems rotate or expire it.

13. Your controls

SillyBudget provides tools to export your data, Create a Clean Slate, and permanently delete your SillyBudget account and budget. Permanent deletion removes the live budget site and its SillyBudget database tables. If the same login belongs to another budget, that other budget and the shared login are preserved. If no other site membership remains, the user profile may also be deleted, subject to system and legal retention needs.

14. Security

We use access controls, private/no-store app responses, rate limiting, validation, data minimization, and other technical safeguards intended to reduce risk. No internet service or storage system can guarantee absolute security, and we cannot promise that unauthorized access, loss, or other incidents will never occur.

15. Security incidents

If we become aware of a security incident involving information for which notice is legally required, we will investigate and provide notifications as required by applicable law.

16. Transactional email

SillyBudget may send service emails such as welcome messages, password resets, security notices, or important account information. If marketing email is introduced later, it will be handled separately and appropriate opt-out choices will be provided.

17. Children

SillyBudget is not intended for children or anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly offer accounts to users under 18.

18. State privacy rights

Depending on where you live and whether a particular law applies to SillyBudget, you may have rights concerning access, correction, deletion, or copies of personal information. SillyBudget already provides in-product export and deletion controls, and you may contact us about additional legally applicable requests.

19. Changes to this notice

We may revise this Privacy Notice as the product or legal requirements change. Material revisions receive a new version/date. Signup records the version accepted, and renewed acceptance may be requested when appropriate.

20. Contact

SillyBudget is an independently operated U.S.-based service. Privacy and support questions can be sent to mike@210mike.com.

Key distinction: SillyBudget stores the budgeting and financial information you enter manually. It does not connect to your bank or ask for your bank credentials or full account/card numbers.
